Psoriatic arthritis is a form of arthritis that affects some people who have psoriasis. Joint pain, swelling and inflammation, in addition to the symptoms of psoriasis, are characteristic of this condition which has a tendency to show alternating periods of exacerbation and remissions. Both diseases are auto immune disorders, in which the immune system of the body turns on itself and starts affecting healthy tissue. Genetics, environment and a tumor necrosis factor appear to play a positive role in psoriatic arthritis. This condition is seen more often in the age from 30 to 50.

What are the natural remedies can be found from your kitchen? Take a look at these:

Turmeric. The rhizome of Turmeric provides a tasty yellow herb that can also work magic on your joints. This herb is a first-rate anti-inflammatory ideal for the pain and swelling of arthritis. It also triggers better bile flow, improving digestive function which is often poor in arthritis sufferers.

Ginger. If you suffer from ailing joints, here's another kitchen herb to help lift your spirits. The plant is particularly good news for arthritis sufferers as it contains zingibain and other phytochemical compounds which quench inflammation. It seems to be particularly good at keeping at bay pain-causing and tissue swelling substances.

Celery. This vegetable also posses advantages for stiff joints. The celery stalks are useful medicine, but the seeds of this plant may be even more effective. Celery seed extracts provide the arthritis sufferer with some 25 anti-inflammatory substances, plus other plant chemicals that are natural diuretics.

Comfrey tea should be taken daily. Comfrey grows very easily in the garden and it would be advisable to have several plants of it. It multiplies quickly in moist soil. The ancient name for comfrey was bone knit and it is a wonderful tissue healer. For arthritic pain dip a large comfrey leaf in hot water to soften it and wrap around the afflicted area. Comfrey tea is made with a ¼ cup of shredded herb (taken from a fully grown leaf only) and filling the cup with boiling water. When cooled a little, strain and drink. Honey or barley malt may be used to sweeten.

Another herb that is considered to be quite a good natural remedy for arthritis is black cohosh. The root of the black cohosh is used in this treatment and it contains substances that make it quite good as an anti-inflammatory as well as an anti-spasmodic. To use black cohosh, you can simply simmer a teaspoon of the root in a cup of boiling water for twenty minutes. After you have strained it, divide it into two doses and take both during the course of the day. It is recommended that you only take the mixture for two to three weeks; then a break of about a week is going to be ideal.
